Summer Camp During COVID-19?

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

"Do I send my kids to summer camp during a pandemic?"

This seems to be the question most parents have on their minds as virtual school is winding down and the government is starting the process of re-opening the state.

A lot of families rely on summer camps when school is not in session. Day camps are not only beneficial to working parents, acting as a form of day care, but children look forward to it as well! They are excited for a change of scenery, and enjoy spending time with their friends at summer camp.

Even though Florida is starting to relax state guidelines for COVID-19, many parents are still working from home, or worse, are unemployed. The uncertainty of our economy and heath is looming in every adults mind, making it a tough decision ... "can I risk sending my children to summer camp?"

First and foremost, you have to make the right decision for YOUR family. Here are some facts we know:

- Most camps are planning on lowering attendance to be able to follow recommended CDC guidelines.

- Rigorous cleaning protocols have been put in place by most camps.

- Most camps are allowing "virtual" options.

- Many are patiently awaiting "Phase 2" to allow kids to come to camp.

Whether you decide to wait or register now, here are local Sarasota Summer Camps Family Living Magazine knows are open for registration (or will be soon) and what they are planning on doing to ensure the safety of their campers.
