You may have seen him on "Oprah" or "Good Morning America." Now, come meet renowned child psychologist and best-selling author Ross W. Greene at the Forty Carrots Family Center 17th annual FREE Educational Community Speaker Event on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The event, presented in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, will be held at 7 p.m. at Riverview High School Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the community, but your RSVP is required. Dr. Greene will present insights from his best-selling book, “Raising Human Beings: Creating a Collaborative Partnership with Your Child.” His presentation will offer parents, caregivers, teachers, and professionals ways to cultivate better parent-child relationships using his empirically supported model of collaborative problem solving. Attendees will learn how to nurture empathy, resilience, and independence, while improving communication and learning how to effectively resolve power struggles. Attendees will receive a free copy of the book, and certificates of attendance also will be available.

Dr. Greene is developer of the innovative Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model of intervention. His research is widely published in academic journals and featured in the national media. On faculty at Harvard Medical School for more than 20 years, Dr. Greene is a graduate of the University of Florida and Virginia Tech.

“This is about raising children in a way that enhances relationships, improves communication and helps kids learn how to resolve disagreements without conflict,” said Dr. Greene. “Our free community speaker event will offer a way for parents, teachers and professionals to help children learn to express emotions and concerns in a direct and constructive way, listen to others, and work collaboratively to solve problems,” said Forty Carrots Family Center CEO Michelle Kapreilian. “Imagine how positively this would impact our families and our community if we all communicated in this way,” she said.

Event co-chairs, Thomas and Adelle Bethel, are preparing to host this impactful event. The previous 16 community speaker events have reached more than 11,000 parents, professionals and educators in our area.
